Born in a family deeply immersed in the dramatic arts of the Orissa St 
ate, Samir Kumar as a young age started singing and acting in theatre parties (Jatras). His father Prafulla Chandra Behera is a well known stage artiste. He it his Masters in Music from Utkal Sangeet

Mohavidyalay, Bhubaneswar in 1997/98.He was introduce to Odissi Dance by Guru Somanath Pradhan. Eventually he also had the privilege of being trained by Padma Vibhusan Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra, with his son Rati kant Mohapatra also contributing to Samir s excellences as a dancer.



Samir was recipient of the National Scholarship for Odissi Dance from the Ministry of HRD New Delhi in 1997/98. The Nritya Vaskar of Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. Alankar Purna of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharv Mahavidyalay Mandal, Mumbai and Orissa State Youth award for Odissi Dance, 2000/01. He also received the gold medal at the National Youth Festival 2002. He became a graded artiste of Doordarshan 2008. Samir is now based in Delhi as an Odissi Dancer and Choreographer. He was an assistant Choreographer for opening dance ceremony of Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010. Now he works as permanent dance faculty at Delhi Public School, an esteemed school of Noida.
